KITCHEN RENOVATIONS:

  • Contemporary

The contemporary kitchen borrows high functionality and streamlined surfaces from the modernist design movement, but its style often incorporates traditional ideas as well for a sleek but livable feel.

  • Traditional

The traditional kitchen design style is “warm and classic,” with elements of English and French taste. Part of its charm, like country, is that it brings the outdoors in, so patterns can include fruits, flowers and butterflies. You can mix and match. It’s a design that is open to interpretation and appeals to all ages and personalities.

  • French Country

If you love style that is warm, comfortable, and beautiful all at the same time, you’re likely a fan of French country designs. A French country kitchen is no different – in a place that has historically been the working-horse of the home, the kitchen designed in a French Country Style evokes a familiar, friendly feeling of a traditional and somewhat simple life.

  • Vintage

Vintage kitchen decorating ideas can help anyone who’s open to a classic, playful, throwback look when it comes to their kitchen design.

  • Portable Kitchen Islands

A kitchen island is a great feature, but it’s also nice to have the flexibility of moving it out of the way when you need more space. An island can even be set on casters, so when the brakes are released, the island can be moved elsewhere. Also, another tip; when planning your kitchen layout, keep a good triangle between refrigerator, sink and stove (equilateral is optimal, but scalene will suffice).
  • Open Concept Kitchens

This type of floor plan has been popular for a while now, so we probably need to reclassify it as a trend-that-stuck.  Knocking out walls – typically between the kitchen and living room – to make communal living spaces is great for families and entertaining. Two downsides to this: Tearing down walls is not typically a DIY project, and it creates pressure to always wash the dishes.
  • Wall Treatments

Wall treatments are a great way to add character to your home.  Wood slats can look fantastic, just make sure to clean and seal with polyurethane.  Designer wallpaper is back as well.  But remember, grandma thought her barn animal themed wallpaper was pretty hip at one time too.
  • Update an Old Fireplace or add one to the Kitchen

Revamping an old fireplace with tile, stacked stone, concrete or something so old, it’s actually back in style again, and adds a cozy romantic feel to any kitchen.
  • Sturdy Countertops

Not really a trend, but new countertops can transform a kitchen and there are so many great options: granite, marble, butcher block, quartz, concrete and stainless steel.  I’ve installed all of them.  Let countertops reflect who you are and how you live.

BATH RENOVATIONS:

  • Upcoming Trend: Pet-Friendly Bathrooms

The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) reports that pet washing zones and built-in kitty litter boxes are on the increase in bathroom remodels.  An extra handheld, waist-high spray allows you to give Toby a quick scrubbing instead of going to the groomers or using the garden hose.

  • Mediterranean-Inspired Design

  • Smart Storage

Practical storage will never go out of style. Whenever possible, take advantage of vertical space and take your cabinetry up the wall.

  • Classic Whites

You can’t go wrong here! White subway tile can be paired with most any look. Make it the base for casual industrial style or dress it up with traditional-style furniture and fixtures for timeless look.

  • Ease of Use

No-threshold showers along with comfort-height toilets, vanities and side-mount faucets are gaining in popularity for very practical reasons.  Curbless showers are easier to clean, they make your bathroom look bigger, and they help homeowners to age in place.

  • Media and Music

Whether it’s for relaxation or for practical reasons, bringing electronics into the bathroom is becoming more commonplace. Wireless speakers, Bluetooth devices and docking stations are being incorporated into bathroom mirrors, showerheads and vanities. For example: Kohler has taken multitasking to a new level with its all-in-one showerhead and speaker combo. Ask me about this!

  • In-Floor Heat and Towel Warmers

For those cold Portland mornings, sometimes luxury can come in the form of a little extra-added warmth. Warm toes and a warm towel can make all the difference on a cold winter’s morning. Radiant floor heat is energy efficient because the heat is touching your body, warming you from the bottom up.

  • Deluxe Showers

Showers with multiple showerheads are a luxury that is becoming more conventional in new homes and remodeled master bathrooms.

  • A Bold Mix of Lighting

A bathroom is the perfect place to get a little daring in your design choices. Try a set of unusual sconces, an ornate chandelier or a set of funky pendants.

  • Fire Features

If you’ve got the budget, you won’t regret implementing this trend into your bathroom remodel. Ventless fire features make it easy and less expensive to add warmth to your new bathroom. Not only will you add romance and luxury to your master suite, a fireplace will help increase your home’s resale value.

“Okay so I have a general Idea of what I want, but I can’t decide. Can you help me put it all together?”

  2. We hired Dahlia for a relatively small remodel project, converting a previously finished garage into a two separate spaces, and office and a mud-room. Filip is always very professional and communicative, and he clearly cares about the quality of his work. Things were done right! He shared his thoughts and suggestions about design, and overall exceeded our expectations. The project turned out better than we had imagined, and still within our budget. Highly recommend working with Filip and Dahlia Home Renovations. We would call him again without thinking twice. Thanks!
