St. Johns, Portland, Oregon 1930’s Basement Renovation ADU | Dahlia Home Renovations

Thanks for checking out our BLOG! After we finished renovating Rose’s new Kitchen. Rose asked us to convert her basement into an ADU (Additional Dwelling Unit) so that she can use it for Air B&B and VRBO. The basement was unfinished, bare, and cold. The windows needed to be converted into egress so that in case of any emergency a person could safely escape. Here’s a photo of what it looked like before.

Rose wanted a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom living space along with a complete kitchen area. We started with framing, added insulation, drywall, flooring, ceiling, and added recess lighting.

The basement had an old functioning toilet, but it was not up to par. Everything had to be gutted, rebuilt and replaced. The fireplace from upstairs was down here as well, so we left it as is. A whole new custom kitchen was built, along with a fireplace feature.

without further a-due, here is the complete finished basement. You can rent this beauty on VRBO by clicking HERE or searching the name “PDX St John’s Daylight Basement Apartment”
